Hearing on the Plight of Minorities  in Bangladesh held in New York City - 2004-05-02


In a hearing on the plight of the minorities in Bangladesh, by US Commission on International Religious Commission, speakers like Congressman Joseph Crawley and others stressed the need for abiding by the norms of human right and granting religious freedom. Congressman Crawley said that US has an important role to play help Bangladesh in democracy as well as in economic development . Abbas Faiz of Amnesty International and others bashed Bangladesh for its failure to protect the minorities in Bangladesh. Justice Latifur Rahman, the Chief of the Caretaker Government was severely criticized and grilled by the Commission for his alleged failure to protect the minorities.
