Fallujah Operation Winding Down - 2004-11-13


Iraqi officials say joint Iraqi-US operations to crush insurgents in the city of Fallujah are winding down, but Iraqi security forces are being deployed to the northern city of Mosul to restore order there.

Interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said it would be at least another day until the Fallujah operations end, despite earlier remarks by his national security minister Qassem Dawoud that the mission had been accomplished.

The security minister said more than 1,000 insurgents have been killed and about 200 arrested in Fallujah.

Iraqi forces will next go to Mosul to join American troops who have been involved in clashes since Wednesday with insurgents trying to take over the city's government buildings, police stations and bridges.loyed to the northern city of Mosul to restore order there.
