Large Weapons Cache Discovered in Iraq City of Fallujah - 2004-11-25


The US military in Iraq says it has uncovered an enormous stockpile of weapon and explosives stored in a mosque in the restive city of Fallujah.

The military on Thursday called it the "largest weapons cache to date in the city."

The discovery came as Iraqi troops searching for suspected terrorist hideouts in Fallujah uncovered an apparent chemical bomb factory. Iraqi officials say the laboratory was used to make toxic substances and contained pamphlets on manufacturing anthrax.

In another development, the U.S. State Department announced that an agency employee, James Mollen, has been murdered in the Iraqi capital. Mr. Mollen was serving as an advisor to the Iraqi education ministry.

Also 0n Thursday, Iraqi officials said a lieutenant of terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (identified as Abu Saeed) has been captured in Mosul.

And in Samarra, north of Baghdad, two people were killed in car bomb attacks.
